Well I ordered the Loxia 35 today. I just have to see for myself if it is any good.

-I have the Sony/Zeiss 35 2.8 and it’s a great lens, sharp from 2.8. But the lens has a very hard time sharping up at infinity on the left edge of the frame! I tried 3 copies of the lens till I got on that was ok. Very frustrating as I find this lens just about perfect everywhere else.
-The Sony/Zeiss 35 1.4 The copy I have is great wide open @1.4 to F2.0 but after that I find it very mediocre compared to the 35 f2.8 and even the 16-35 @ 35mm.
-The Sony/Zeiss 16-35 f4 zoom I have is really very good with consistent performance from 24mm to 35mm, and it gets a bit soft in the corners and edges 20mm and wider. I would say that this is the best 35mm I have right now for landscape work.
-I tried and sent back the Sony RX1RII because the lens was decentered or something? It could not produce an evenly sharp photo across the frame even at f8. I spent almost a day working on a tripod trying to figure out what was going on. Too bad as one of my all time favorite cameras was the RX1R.
I REALLY hope the Loxia 35 delivers constant performance across the frame!!
If anyone wants to see comparative image samples from these cameras let me know and I could send you a dropbox link.

Got the Loxia 35mm today and spent the last few hours walking around with it and I can tell it’s what I have been looking for! I’m a bit surprised as most of the reviews I have read liked it but nobody seemed to rave about it. I found it to be nice and sharp wide open on my A7RII, just as good as the Sony/Zeiss 35 1.4 and better than the another 35mm lens I have used stopped down. I was mainly looking for an excellent 35mm lens that will provide consistent and sharp results stopped down for landscape and urban landscape use. Up until now the Sony/Zeiss 35mm 2.8 was the closest thing although that lens is a bit weak on the left side of the frame, and the 35mm 1.4 is great wide open up to f2 but in my opinion is nothing great stopped down past f2, actually looking a little soft stopped down?!?!? Plus it took my a few copies to get a decent one. Anyways, this Loxia seems EXCELLENT and I’m very happy.
